Posting date: April 2, 2009

At the City of Hamilton, our vision is “to be the best place in Canada to raise a child, promote innovation, engage citizens and provide diverse economic opportunities”. With our rich history, culturally strong and diverse communities, blend of urban and rural attractions, and ideal location in the heart of the Golden Horseshoe, our City is a vibrant community of neighbours and a place we are all proud to call home. We are also a leading employer, with many opportunities to grow and excel. We invite you to share in our vision as part of the Community Services Department’s General Manager’s Office.

Program Analyst, Immigration Strategy

This temporary, full-time position is an exciting opportunity to participate in strengthening the role of our City and our community partners in serving and integrating immigrants. To this end, Hamilton’s Immigration Strategy will develop a framework that will lead to: improved access to, and co-ordination of effective services for immigrant settlement and integration; strengthened community awareness and capacity to integrate immigrants; improved access to the labour market for immigrants; and enhanced partnerships in planning and co-ordinating integration services. You will manage projects for the generation and dissemination of information related to the development of the Immigration Strategy, and the work of the Immigration Partnership Council, which provides strategic leadership in the development of the Strategy. Among your priorities will be monitoring current service delivery to newcomers as well as trends, and conducting data analysis, program evaluations and needs assessments.

Excelling in our results-oriented, deadline-driven environment, you bring experience in project management and professional consultation, highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, and knowledge of social services, such as program planning, implementation and evaluation, indicator reporting, critical appraisal of literature, methods and community participation, research methods and policy analysis. You are conversant with municipal government operations and its relationships with community partners, other municipalities, and provincial and federal governments. A superb communicator with excellent facilitation and organizational talents, you are able to deal effectively with multiple stakeholders: elected officials, representatives of other levels of government, management, peers, staff and the general public. Your computer and data management strengths include the ability to design and analyze databases. A master’s-level preparation in a field related to social science, program evaluation or policy analysis is required. This position involves travelling within the community.

Box 2040, LCD1, Hamilton, ON  L8N 0A3. Fax: 905-546-2650. In person: Standard Life Building, 120 King Street West, 9th Floor, Hamilton.
